Master of Leadership Arts and Sciences

The certification course is designed for practicing chief executives or high-level executives who are committed to leadership competency and sustainable organizational excellence. This interactive group course is primarily web and teleconference-based with two in-person gatherings in Flat Rock, NC, marking the beginning and the end of each course year and which coincides with the launch of the new course year.

The Master of Leadership Arts and Sciences (MLAS), offered under The Thayer Institute for Performance Virtuosity, is a three year course. The first two years consist of intense interactive study with a third year of “practicum.” During this time, you will function as a consultant to an organization of your choice which could be your own organization with a faculty member’s mentoring and oversight.

We will use Thayer’s textbook Leadership: Thinking, Being, Doing, as well as the accompanying Field Guide. Weekly reading-based assignments will be critiqued by your fellow participants, creating a collaborative learning and development environment. Monthly webinars and faculty scheduled “office hours” provide spaces to discuss topics of concern in great detail. In addition, the Institute’s “Problem Space” and “Question Place” give you the opportunity to post specific problems and questions to solicit both participant and faculty response.
